STM My Space: Inside the Floreat home of Dr Kate Jameson of medical cosmetic clinic Youth Lab

Youth Lab founders Dr Kate Jameson and her fiance Jon were on the hunt for a family home that was closer to work when they stumbled across their dream home. “We fell in love with this house as soon as we walked in the front door. It was designed and built by the previous owner and was a pure passion project,” Dr Jameson explains. “It honestly feels so removed from the rest of the world when you sit on the balcony and look out at Bold Park and Perry Lakes. It’s a really special place.” The couple, who live in the home with their toddler son Edison and dogs Sam and Saffron, moved into the home on Valentine’s Day last year. “We had recently opened our second clinic in Claremont and were doing a long commute, which I was struggling with because it was adding an extra hour to my work day and we had a baby at home,” Dr Jameson says. “We wanted to move somewhere close to both of our clinics (West Perth and Claremont), in a family-friendly area that was close to the beach and the city. Floreat ticked all of the boxes.” The house was inspired by the original cubist architecture of the 1962 Empire Games around Floreat. Throughout the home is custom detailing executed to the highest level. “Our home blends minimalism with modern luxury, but is still comfortable and homely due to the chaos and clutter that life with a toddler brings,” Dr Jameson laughs. The two-storey home is spacious and open, with bedrooms, living areas and a pool downstairs, and the kitchen, dining and main bedroom upstairs. “The style is like a hotel, so it’s essentially our retreat from the world. The first thing you see when you walk in the front door is the one-of-a-kind infinity-edge glass pool with a vertical garden wall. It’s completely unique,” Dr Jameson explains. The design maximises indoor and outdoor living, with views of the leafy green suburb and doors that completely open on to the upstairs alfresco area. French Oak Renoir flooring, venetian plaster interior walls and the Japanese burnt-birch alfresco ceilings on the balcony, are just a few of Dr Jameson’s favourite features. Animal and child-friendly furniture and homewares fill the home, including a Wendlebo sofa, Globe West marble tables and a dining suite and buffet from Empire homewares. “I am quite a minimalist with my style, which has been made even more apparent having a toddler at home. Most of our nice things have been locked away out of prying hands,” laughs Dr Jameson. “I’ve had to scale back our styling in the house, as our son is very busy and manages to get into everything, so there are no table settings or coffee table styling allowed and much of our house ends up looking like a toy room at the end of each day. But I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
