STM Loves: Fremantle International Street Arts Festival, Lime Cordiale with WASO and Karijini Experience

Fremantle International Street Arts Festival This free event is celebrating 25 years with a fire-filled spectacle in the streets of Fremantle, presented by the wild pyrotechnic display of Amor by France’s Compagnie Bilbobasso. The festival kicks off on Good Friday and runs through the Easter long weekend, also featuring otherworldly puppets on stilts from Canada’s Imagicario, a spellbinding Indigenous-led acrobatic troupe. There will be roaming acts day and night, as well as performances across eight venues including Fremantle Prison, Esplanade Park and The National Hotel. See streetartsfestival.com.au. The Journey There is a certain romance to travelling by train and this coffee table book celebrates the great Australian trips, including the Indian Pacific, Ghan, Great Southern and Overland journeys. It delves into the history of the rail network, chronicling 170 years from the pioneering steam locomotives to today’s trains, alongside imagery of the breathtaking landscapes it covers. The Journey is $80 and available online or in select bookstores. The Universal Bag While a reusable Woolies bag is certainly useful it would never be referred to as stylish — until now. Woolworths has partnered with British accessories designer Anya Hindmarch — the woman behind the hugely popular I Am Not A Plastic Bag campaign in 2007 — on the Universal Bag. “The Universal Bag project has saved over 230 tonnes of virgin plastic from landfill to date, the equivalent weight of over 19 London double-decker buses,” Hindmarch says of the 100 per cent cycled and recyclable bag. Lime Cordiale x WASO In a delightful collision between pop and classical music, Australian band Lime Cordiale will team up with West Australian Symphony Orchestra for a “genre-bending spectacle” later this year. Conducted by Vanessa Scammell, the orchestra will accompany the pop-rock duo on symphonic reinventions of their biggest hits, including Robbery, Temper Temper and Dirt Cheap. The concerts are at Riverside Theatre on November 14 and 15. Tickets on sale at waso.com.au. Karijini Experience Zach Green, known as the storyteller chef, will live up to his moniker as he guides guests on a four-course degustation as part of the Karijini Experience. Green will create each dish before the diners’ eyes while he explains the traditions and cultural significance behind every locally sourced ingredient. Held in Karijini National Park, the music, art and cultural event runs from April 11 to 14, while this unique dining experience on April 13 is priced at $295 and includes beer and wine. Bjork’s Cornucopia If you missed out on tickets to the Icelandic performer’s show at Perth Festival in 2023, or you want to relive it, a version of the concert is getting limited theatrical release on May 7. Cornucopia, the elaborate part gig, part environmental commentary from the 16-time Grammy Award nominee and queen of quirky art-pop, will premiere in 500 cinemas worldwide, including Palace Raine Square, Luna on SX and Luna Leederville.
