‘This will make life so much easier’: Retiree’s $8m Lotto win after dentist appointment
A retiree has walked away from a dentist appointment with $8m after winning Oz Lotto.
The man was having breakfast with his wife when a Lott official delivered the good news, telling him he held the only division one winning entry in the Oz Lotto draw 1599 on Tuesday.
“Oh my! That’s unbelievable!” the man from Bentley Park in Cairns said.
“This will make life so much easier.
“I’ve been playing lotteries since it first started – god knows!”
The retiree had been at the dentist when he decided to buy a Lotto ticket right after the appointment.
“Who would’ve known that this ticket would deliver an $8m win,” he said.
The shock still fresh, the man revealed he’s not sure what the windfall would be spent on, but confirmed he has at least one purchase in mind.
“I really am unsure, but I’ll definitely buy a new car,” he said.
The lucky ticket was purchased at Market Place News in Centenary Park Place, with owner Sally Tyrie saying the team was “so excited” following the win.
“I think selling the ticket is the next best thing to winning. There will be lots of celebrating and excitement in the shop this week,” Ms Tyrie said.
“We will certainly be putting some balloons up and getting ready to sell our next winning ticket.”
Ms Tyrie revealed it was the store’s third division one winning entry, with the last sold in November 2019.
“These winning moments are why we do what we do,” she said.
“Eight million dollars is a life-changing amount and we’re so happy for our winner. We wish them all the best as they have some great times ahead of them. Congratulations!”
The winning numbers in Tuesday’s draw were 30, 46, 44, 14, 45, 42 and 6, while the supplementary numbers were 16, 15 and 21.
