Unregistered practitioner slapped with ban after patients of Sydney cosmetic clinic urged to get tested for HIV, hepatitis

An unregistered practitioner who worked at a cosmetic clinic that potentially exposed clients to HIV and hepatitis B and C has been temporarily barred from providing cosmetic treatments. Clients of the Ketthip Clinic in Sydney’s CBD who underwent invasive procedures, infusions and injections have been urged to get tested for HIV, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C following safety protocol breaches. A staff member at the Sussex St clinic breached poisons and skin penetration protocols, according to the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District Public Health Unit (SESLHD PHU). Concerns about potential risks to public health from unsafe practices at the clinic were raised with the SESLHD PHU, with the clinic inspected last Friday. Evidence of procedures conducted in breach of skin penetration legislation was found, including an increased infection risk between clients. The Health Care Complaints Commission (HCCC) has since confirmed a non-registered practitioner and provider of cosmetic treatments and procedures has been banned from providing any health services for eight weeks. It’s understood the practitioner, I Pei Pan – also known as Ipei Pan, Dr Pan and Dr Pan Pan – worked at the Ketthip Clinic. The HCCC’s temporary prohibition order specifies that Ms Pan is not able to provide any procedures involving skin penetration in either paid or voluntarily work to members of the public as well as supply or administer any medications. She is also banned from offering, advertising, marketing or promoting any health services that formed part of the interim prohibition to members of the public. The bans are in place for eight weeks between March 5 and April 30. The clinic is also temporarily barred from providing health services of any kind under a separate interim HCCC prohibition order earlier this week. The bans are in place between March 3 and April 28. The clinic has been contacted for comment.
