Perth Airport consults on potential new flight paths with third runway in the works
Langford local Peter Watson says he is “getting driven insane” by noise from planes using Perth Airport.
He has lived at the home for 40 years but his house is one of thousands that could have more planes flying over when a third runway is built.
“It’s gonna be horrendous for us,” he said.
It’s still at least five years away but proposed new flight corridors have been released for public consultation.
Suburbs to the east and south-east of the airport - including Forrestfield, High Wycombe, South Guildford and Wattle Grove could be hardest hit with up to 200 extra flights overhead each day.
Queens Park, Cannington and Belmont should get a decrease in noise.
Aviation expert Geoffrey Thomas believes “all the really noisy aircraft” at Perth Airport will have gone by the time this runway is built.
During the last mining boom the airport struggled to keep up with demand for both its passenger and cargo services, it says a third runway is essential if it’s to avoid that happening again.
Without it the State’s future economic growth will be stunted.
Perth Airport chief executive Kevin Brown said the runway would add $2 billion to the tourism industry in it’s the first two decades.
Residents have until August 24 to voice their concerns.
