GSFL 2025: Changes to player points system with Sharks’ total reduced, Bulls and Magpies retain concessions

After winning the past two Great Southern Football League premierships, Albany will have a reduced player points allocation in the 2025 season. The Sharks’ bid to win a third straight flag will be with four points less than 2024, in new player points allocations the GSFL has endorsed in its by-laws. Under the amended Country Football WA player point value six-point template for the 2025 season, there have been several changes for GSFL clubs. The most significant is the Sharks coming back from the 34 points they won the grand final on last year to 30. The Sharks played on their 34-point limit in the grand final win over Royals with Harrison Hordacre, Taj Williams, Matt Martin, Bailey Taylor and Jesse Patane all three-point players. Grand finalists the Lions had 32 points last year and will drop back to 31 for the new campaign — however they played on only 26 points in the decider. Only Mt Barker and Denmark-Walpole will have concession points this season. Mt Barker reached a preliminary final in 2024 and will have 32 points plus 10 concession points for a total of 42, a two-point reduction for the Bulls from last year. Denmark-Walpole had a 48-point allocation last year and that will remain, with the league handing them 38 points plus 10 concessions for a 48-point total again in 2025. Railways rise from 31 points last year to 34 this season and North Albany will remain on 36 points. Under the system any player transferring from the Magpies or Bulls to any other GSFL clubs including between those two clubs will attract a PPV of four except for a player who qualifies for club of origin status attracting a PPV of 1. Each league team must fit under their allocated player points total when selecting their team on game day.
