Teen in serious, stable condition at Royal Perth Hospital after crashing car into tree on Princess Royal Drive

A teenager who suffered serious injuries after crashing his car into a tree on Princess Royal Drive on Thursday night is in a serious but stable condition. The 19-year-old was airlifted to Royal Perth Hospital by the Royal Flying Doctor Service WA on Friday afternoon for treatment of his serious injuries. He remains in the intensive care unit. Emergency services were called to the verge outside the Albany Light Opera & Theatre Company about 9.40pm on Thursday, where the teenager’s blue sedan was wrapped around a tree. The driver, who was the car’s sole occupant, was not trapped but had sustained serious injuries from the impact, with the passenger door caved in, roof buckled and windows smashed. St John WA took him to Albany Health Campus, where he arrived at 10.25pm, before he was flown to Perth the following day. Police and Department of Fire and Emergency Service crews attended the scene. Police are investigating the incident and ask anyone who saw the crash or has dashcam footage to contact them on 131 444. The car was removed from the Southern Ports-owned verge by the teenager’s family.
