Stony Hill and Peak Head rescue: Hiker rescued after falling metres into ravine in Torndirrup National Park

A hiker who slipped and fell off the edge of the Peak Head Trail on Monday afternoon has been successfully rescued and transported to hospital. Vertical rescue crews from Albany SES and the Department of Fire and Emergency Services worked with St John WA paramedics in the RAC rescue helicopter to complete the rescue, with the effort taking around three hours in total. The hiker was transported to Albany Regional Airport in the RAC rescue helicopter before being transferred by road to Albany Health Campus for treatment. Emergency services were called to the popular walking track in Torndirrup National Park in Albany at 1.32pm on Easter Monday after the hiker fell several metres into a ravine. The RAC rescue helicopter was deployed but had to return to Albany to refuel at about 3:45pm, before returning more than half an hour later to complete the rescue.
