$240,000 drugs, cash seizure

Police allegedly seized cash and methamphetamine with an estimated total value of more than $240,000 following a vehicle pursuit in Geraldton at the weekend.

Police charged a 20-year-old Waggrakine woman and a 35-year-old Perth man in relation to the incident.

Traffic officers attempted to pull over a vehicle with faulty tail lights on North West Coastal Highway about 7.30pm on Saturday.

The vehicle allegedly took off at speed after it was engaged by police and was pursued.

The vehicle was allegedly clocked travelling 173km/h as it passed police traffic units in the area.

A vehicle check point which was already in place deployed road spikes and the vehicle was forced to stop.

The two occupants of the vehicle allegedly fled on foot and were apprehended by police.

The woman was allegedly found with 167.78g of methamphetamine and more than $66,000 in cash hidden in a backpack.

A further search of the vehicle allegedly revealed $9,000 cash stored in the footwell.

Police say a total of $76,190 in cash was seized.

The woman has been charged with possession of a prohibited drug with intent to sell or supply and unlawful possession of cash.

The man has been charged with five counts of reckless driving, one count of no authority to drive and failure to stop.

Police said the man could face further drug charges and investigations are ongoing.

Mid West Gascoyne District Superintendent Mike Bell asked members of the community to come forward with any information.

“The volume of drugs we are receiving is concerning and we would implore any member of the community who has information to telephone Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000,” Dist. Supt Bell said.

“Methamphetamine is a very destructive drug and is tearing at the fabric of our community and also tearing families apart.”
