Child sex offender 'showed no remorse'
A 49-year-old man sentenced to two years jail for child sex offences showed no genuine remorse for his actions, a court has heard.
The man appeared before the District Court at Geraldton via video-link from Acacia Prison to be sentenced on four counts of indecent dealings with a child under 13 years and one count of sexual penetration of a child under 13 years.
The 49-year-old is currently serving an eight year and nine month sentence for similar offending.
The offending occurred between 2003 and 2006, and his victims were two sisters aged between eight and 12 at the time.
Judge Christopher Stevenson said the man preyed upon the young girls while they were in bed, and there was an element of grooming involved.
“It was a gross breach of trust by you,” he said.
He said the man showed no genuine insight or remorse into his offending or the psychological trauma his victims would carry with them for the rest of their lives.
A hearing is scheduled for April 22 to have the 49-year-old man declared a dangerous sex offender.
