'European-inspired' multi-housing proposal for Geraldton
A European-inspired three-level multiple housing development has been proposed for Hill Way, Geraldton.
In a development application lodged with the City of Greater Geraldton, developer Westreef Investments seeks approval for a “high quality development” comprising 15 two bedroom, two bathroom dwellings.
It says the design, inspired by Terrasshus developments build down hillsides in European mountain cities, would provide an attractive and conservative streetscape presence.
“By utilising the natural contours of the land instead of battling against it, the amount of cut and fill required is minimalized and the development is in keeping with the natural ground levels,” the application states.
“This allows the upper levels to be receded, reducing greatly the building's bulk and scale.
“The built form then responds to the steep downward slope of the site by stepping down the mass and further breaking up the level with careful consideration to façade articulation and material selection.
“All balconies are well set back from boundaries allowing for maximum sensitivity for all neighboring properties.”
It says the development would offer ocean views over the city skyline and would target downsizers and owner occupiers.
Public submissions on the proposal close with the City next Monday at 5pm.
