A man has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm after he allegedly punched another man in the face causing multiple fractures to the victim’s jaw.

It is alleged a 22-year-old approached a 45-year-old Woorree man at Activewest Basketball Stadium on July 4 and an argument followed, which led to the incident.

It happened between 9pm and 10pm inside a crowded function room, after an SBL game between the Geraldton Buccaneers and the Joondalup Wolves.

The victim was flown to Perth and required surgery to have screws and plates inserted in his jaw.

A 22-year-old Rangeway man has been released on bail and will appear in the Geraldton Magistrate's Court next month.
