With Christmas around the corner, Parkerville Children and Youth Care volunteer Jude Darby wants Geraldton to dig deep for those less fortunate.

Geraldton is home to a Parkerville Children and Youth Care service, which looks after children who have experienced abuse at the hands of their caregivers.

This Christmas, Mrs Darby is appealing for the community to donate to the organisation in either cash or children’s presents.

“If you are interested in helping out a worthy cause this Christmas, consider giving to Parkerville," she said.

“They are looking for a variety of resources and gifts to assist in the delivery of these services, especially at this time of year.”

Almost 18,000 people used the organisation in 2014-15 through primary, secondary or tertiary services.

Mrs Darby said even a small donation would go far in helping these children.

“The children they serve are children who, through no fault of their own, have experienced trauma from abuse at the hands of adults in whom they placed their trust and love,” she said.

"These children need good access to holistic services, stable care and ongoing therapeutic intervention to enable recovery.

“The investment is costly, but well worth it.”
