Police seize drugs disguised as banana lollies
Geraldton police today revealed details of the seizure of a "significant" amount of banana-shaped ecstasy pills during schoolies celebrations.
Detective Senior Sergeant Adrian Richards said police were pleased to have stopped a significant amount of the drugs hitting the streets as Year 12 students celebrate the end of secondary school.
Police seized 200 grams (7 ounces) of the MDMA pills in an operation this week.
Det. Sen. Sgt Richards said it was the first time he had seen drugs shaped like banana lollies.
He said, if left lying around, there was every chance the drugs could be mistaken for confectionery.
Police arrested a 20-year-old Drummond Cove man on Monday and charged him with attempting to possess the pills.
Officers also searched the man's house and seized about $7000 in cash, allegedly proceeds from the sale of prohibited drugs.
The man has been charged with one count of attempting to possess a prohibited drug (MDMA) with intent to sell or supply and one count of possessing unlawfully obtained property.
He will appear before Geraldton Magistrate's Court later this month.
