A car has been returned to its owner hours after it was reported stolen when police acted on comments they received from the community on social media.

Police say a Ford F-250 was taken from Greenough Flats on Saturday afternoon and was found later that day when police went to a Woorree property.

Local policing teams tracked down the vehicle after members of the community responded to a Facebook post made by the owner of the vehicle.

No charges have been laid and police say they are continuing investigations.

Sergeant Matt Power, from Geraldton police, thanked the community for their support and urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
