Geraldton’s Theatre 8 will bring in the festive season with a Christmas Show, but don’t be expecting your usual sleigh bells and baubles.

Instead, the theatre will take on Ma Baker’s Tonic, beginning tonight.

Directed by first-timer Lachlan Anderson, the show is set in the Roaring 20s during a time of prohibition.

Written by Mary McMahon, who also wrote Theatre 8’s 2014 performance of Mystery on the Orient Express, the show tells the story of Ritzy’s, an up-market night club.

“The characters are all larger than life, including Ma Baker and her hillbilly daughters Blossom and Petal,” Anderson said.

“There are lots of other stand out characters too, including Da Raffia, who could not be called the Mafia because they didn’t know Frank Sinatra, a not so romantic gigolo, Fred Valentino, and the quiet but surprising Ermatrude.

“Meet some fun and lively characters among bright songs, dance and comedy with plenty of chances to sing along.”

Shows start today from 6pm.

Tickets with dinner are $45 or $40 for T8 members/concessions.

Shows with no meal are $25 or $20.
