A saltwater crocodile has been sighted swimming just 50m off a popular swimming and fishing spot in the Kimberley.

The croc was spotted at Gantheaume Point, heading towards Cable Beach, on Monday morning.

Shire of Broome rangers have closed the beaches between Rendell and Cable Beach for the next 24 hours.

It is understood that Parks and Wildlife rangers will capture the crocodile and relocate it to Malcolm Douglas Crocodile Park, in accordance with council protocol.

The crocodile was seen swimming close to shore and heading towards Broome.
