Benjamin Cheeseman charged after alleged discovery of 3D-printed guns, illegal gun manufacturing tech, drugs

A routine traffic stop led to the shock discovery of two illegally manufactured weapons on Thursday night. Police were conducting traffic stops along Epsom Avenue in Ascot about 10.30pm on Thursday when they made the alarming find. Benjamin Joseph Cheeseman, 42, was allegedly driving an orange Holden Trax when he was stopped by police. And in a subsequent search of the car, officers allegedly found methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and two 3D-printed firearms. Police then searched an address in Riverton about 12.05am on Friday, where two 3D printers were allegedly found on the premises. Detectives charged the 42-year-old with firearm manufacturing offences, including one count each of possessing a firearm or ammunition without a licence, possessing firearms technology while not authorised by a licence, and manufacturing a firearm major firearm part, prohibited firearm accessory or ammunition without a licence. Mr Cheeseman was also slapped with drug charges, including possession of a prohibited drug methylamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia in or on which there was a prohibited drug or plant. He was granted bail following an appearance at Perth Magistrates Court on Friday and will next face court on February 28.
