Police are calling for witnesses after a woman was brutally assaulted on the side of the road in Perth’s south.

Special crime squad detectives are investigating the incident, which happened in O’Connor about 7.15pm on Sunday.

It is understood the woman was assaulted inside a 2014 white Toyota Prado by the male driver while travelling on Stockdale Road towards Hamilton Hill.

The 51-year-old woman tried to escape the attack by fleeing the vehicle at the intersection of Stockdale and Peel roads in O’Connor.

The man caught her and assaulted her again on the side of the road before getting back in the Prado and driving away.

The woman then flagged down passing motorists. She was taken to hospital for treatment to serious injuries.
