Two people are dead and 19 others injured in another US mass shooting in Detroit, Michigan State Police say.

State police said no one is in custody and they were assisting Detroit police with the investigation, according to a post on the social media platform X.

The agency said their preliminary information showed the 19 injured victims had "various injuries."

The shooting comes amid a violent holiday weekend nationwide.

Two boys were shot in a McDonald's in the Bronx on Saturday night, police in New York City said.

The two victims, ages 12 and 13, were hospitalised and listed in stable condition, a New York Police Department spokesman said.

Authorities said they were searching for a male suspect who entered the fast food restaurant in the Allerton section of the Bronx around 10pm Saturday and opened fire at the boys before running away.

The 12-year-old was hit in the leg and back and the 13-year-old was shot in the leg, police said.

According to experts violence and mass shootings often surge in the summer months, especially around the Fourth of July.

Researchers say the reason is a combination of factors, including more social events and more alcohol consumption.

Four people were killed and three others wounded in a mass shooting at a birthday party at a home in northern Kentucky, earlier this weekend.

The shooting suspect later died after fleeing the home and leading police on a vehicle pursuit that ended with the suspect's car falling into a ditch, police said Saturday.
