Bull Creek bushfire: Locals warned to stay alert as firefighters contain bushfire near Rossmoyne Senior High
City of Melville residents have been warned to stay alert as firefighters contain a suburban bushfire just metres from two prestigious schools.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services downgraded its warning to an advice about 1.15pm on Thursday for residents on both side of Karel Avenue in an area bounded by Leach Highway to the north, Camm Avenue to the west, Parry Avenue and Burrendah Boulevard to the south and The Escarpment the east in parts of Bull Creek and Willetton in the City of Melville.
“The alert for this fire has been downgraded as the fire is now contained but not controlled,” a DFES spokesperson said.
“There is no threat to lives and homes.
“Although there is no immediate danger you need to be aware and keep up to date in case the situation changes.”
The blaze is stationary and contained with firefighters on the scene mopping up.
It is not controlled.
The fire — which was first reported about 10.50am on Thursday — is understood to have started on a median strip near Karel Avenue, just metres from All Saints College and Rossmoyne Senior High School, forcing residents to defend their homes with garden hoses.
All Saints College is in the bushfire advice zone.
A number of roads including Karel Avenue have been closed.
Motorists are asked to avoid the area, reduce speed and drive carefully.
