AFLW wrap: Exmouth’s Mim Strom with an emphatic best-on-ground performance for Dockers in derby clash

Mid West Gascoyne AFLWA star Mim Strom equalled her own ruck record in a solid win against cross-town rivals West Coast in the western derby. Exmouth’s Strom proved again why she is the premier ruck of the competition, winning 48 hit-outs in a best-on-ground performance for Fremantle. Fremantle started strong in the first quarter with three unanswered goals, leaving West Coast on the back foot at home. The Dockers’ bursting runs out of the midfield led to continued scoreboard pressure, while West Coast were held goalless in the first half. It was more of the same in the second half with Fremantle continuing to dominate play. Dongara talent, Roxanne Roux again provided a gritty performance, sparking a bit of life into the Eagles. West Coast attempted to claw their way back into the contest but only managed to kick one goal for the match. Fremantle dominated and defeated West Coast 5.5 (35) to 1.6 (12) in Saturday’s game at Sullivan Logistics Stadium. Strom walked away with best on ground in the derby, equalling her career-high hit-outs. After last week’s injury, Julia Teakle missed out on Port Adelaide’s game against the Saints on Friday night at home. Despite the Power not having the Northampton forward, they managed to pull off a solid win, defeating St Kilda 7.5 (47) to 5.2 (32).
