Brendon Claydean Nevill: Accused man remanded in custody after alleged trespasses and burglary in Bluff Point

A 26-year-old man accused of trespassing through two Bluff Point properties and waking an occupant who was asleep in a third property was remanded in custody after appearing in court last week. Brendon Claydean Nevill, 26, appeared in Geraldton Magistrates Court from custody on Thursday, pleading guilty to possessing methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, but didn’t enter pleas for aggravated home burglary and trespassing charges. Police allege on August 16 about 3am the accused man entered a home on Kempton Street in Bluff Point through an unlocked sliding door and woke the occupant who was asleep. Geraldton police officer-in-charge Sen. Sgt Chris Martin said the occupant confronted the accused man and he fled from the house, dropping boxes of fuel cell gas canisters on the driveway. Sen. Sgt Martin said police allege Mr Nevill entered the rear yard of a house on the same street before leaving a short time later. Police accuse Mr Nevill of entering a third property on Lands Edge Close. The accused was arrested on Wednesday afternoon. In court, defence lawyer Georgia Keysers said Mr Nevill denied the allegations and any involvement in the home invasion, suggesting the court imposed bail with strict curfew with Mr Nevill to submit random drug screening. Ms Keysers noted there was no reference to forensics being taken and the accused man had no criminal history of burglary. Police prosecutor Sgt Ross Gray said he strongly opposed bail as there was CCTV footage that showed Mr Nevill trespassing and carrying gas canisters that were dropped at a home on Kempton Street. Sgt Gray said the nature of the offence was serious given the victim allegedly woke up to find someone in their home. The court was told Mr Nevill was already on bail and was not complying with urine analysis requirements or previous court orders. Magistrate Angus Hockton said he was concerned the accused man would reoffended on bail after showing non-compliance with previous orders. Mr Nevill’s bail was refused and he will reappear in court on Thursday, August 31 where CCTV evidence will be provided.
