Northampton kept reigning premiers Chapman Valley scoreless in a 28-point win as they buried last year’s grand final disappointment.

It was a vastly different Royals side from the one on show in the grand final missing the likes of Kayley King, Erica Trotter and Georgia Keyser and without the best player in the competition, Tayah Palmer.

Rams were missing their leading goal scorer from last year Selina Kiddle, but it doesn’t matter when you keep the opposition scoreless.

The Royals spent most of the game in defence and they held up us well as they could but the Rams had too much with Mikenna Schultz and Sienna Forsyth big ball winners in the middle of the ground, with Maddi Miller the key forward.

Taylah Broadhurst and Samantha Williamson did their best for Chapman Valley but the Royals lacked the class to get any clean movement as Rams were happy to maul the ball forward.

Though there was only one goal scored at half-time the Royals never looked like scoring and the Rams kicked away in the second half to take home the hard-fought win.

Despite the fact the Royals were kept scoreless it was the closest game for the women as both Rovers and Mullewa were handed pastings by Brigades and Towns respectively.

Rovers look like they could be in for another long season as Gemma Dix and Jessica Guidice-Nairn sliced their way through the Demons in a 14.16 (100) to 1.1 (7) demolition job at Greenough.

Dix opened the scoring on her way to three goals as the Demons barely got their hands on the footy in the first half.

The Hawks were winning every ball out of the contest with Guidice-Nairn everywhere, while Breeanna Hamlett showed great pace up forward as they were a class above.

Both had two goals of their own as the writing was on the wall for Rovers trailing 6.10 (46) to 0.1 (1) at half-time.

They did manage to find a goal in the third and Abby Green worked hard out the middle but they were no match for the high-flying Hawks who brought up 100 late in the fourth quarter to get a huge early season percentage boost.

Towns also kept their opponents Mullewa to one goal in their 10.13 (73) to 1.1 (7) victory.

Ashleigh Jones kicked a bag while Olivia Bidwell picked up where she left off as the Bulldogs mauled the Saints.

Azaria Papertalk got their lone goal but, much like the Rovers, were in a completely different league to their opponents as they fell to a heavy defeat.
