Geraldton Buccaneers fans have a double chance to watch their team this weekend, as the Buccs work to capitalise on an opportunity to put some points on the board.

They host the East Perth Eagles today in the first game of a rare home-court double-header and then the Joondalup Wolves on Sunday, with both games winnable for a squad in transition.

Coach Dayle Joseph said the Buccs were hoping new recruit Brandon Holloway would suit up for the weekend as he recovers from an ACL injury, while Aidan Gardiner is back in town after finishing high school in the US, and should be available. “Hopefully we have Brandon,” Joseph said.

“He’ll play some limited minutes as we manage his return to basketball.

“We’re hoping for Aidan to be available and to get paperwork through.

“We’re hoping we can get a win (today) and back it up on Sunday.”

The Eagles sit below Geraldton on the ladder with six losses in their last seven, while the Buccs have two wins in the last six.

The Wolves have traditionally been a strong side but have had a coaching change — they remain a tough proposition and are in sixth with six wins and three losses this season. Gardiner was part of the squad that won the last ever State Basketball League championship in 2019. Holloway is a transfer from the Goldfields Giants.

Previously the Basketball WA development officer in the Goldfields, he averaged eight points a game in 2019, playing 766 minutes over the season with a field goal ratio of just over 39 per cent and shooting just over 37 per cent from outside the three-point line.

The Buccs will also be hoping for another strong showing from vets Mat Wundenberg and Aaron Ralph, along with ex-Perth Wildcat Mathiang Muo and their other new recruits.

Ralph put up 18 points last round, while Wundenberg had 15 points and 16 rebounds.
