Call issued for volunteers for this year’s Million Trees Community Planting Day on Beresford Foreshore

Community green thumbs and locals who just care about their environment are invited to bring along their gardening gloves and take part in the annual Million Trees Community Planting Day this weekend. The annual event will be held on the Beresford Foreshore on Saturday, July 2, with City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn saying the occasion gave the community the chance to be part of something big. “For nearly a decade, the City has been holding annual planting events for the community to take part in,” he said. “This year we are aiming to plant 800 seedlings on the Beresford Foreshore, all of which will be counted towards the Million Trees Project. “Thanks to the efforts of everyone involved in planting seedlings over the past 10 years, the look and feel of our city has certainly improved.” People keen to participate can meet at the Chapman Road carpark across from Mitchell and Brown between 9am and 11am on Saturday and are advised to wear suitable clothes and footwear and to bring their own gloves and water bottle. No previous gardening experience is required and refreshments will be provided. Since the Million Trees project began in 2012, nearly 510,000 seedlings, trees and shrubs have been planted.
