Camel Man John Arthur Elliott’s national trek to come to close in Geraldton

A man’s journey across Australia, with his dog and six camels is set to come to an end here in Geraldton on Saturday.

The Camel Man, John Arthur Elliott, has trekked more than 12,000km across Australia, through seven States and Territories.

The journey has seen Mr Elliott and his animal companions cross fields, forests, beaches, snowy mountains and a whole lot of outback desert.

Three-and-a-half years ago, Mr Elliott resigned as CEO of his own company in Perth, with an original plan to trek along the WA coast.

That plan soon changed, and the following years saw him head east, then from the northern tip of Queensland to the most southern point of Tasmania, and then finally crossing back to WA through the centre of the country.

His adventure became more than just one man’s journey of discovery when he partnered up with the charity Skin Check Champions, after a doctor discovered an early-stage melanoma on his body, and he has raised more than $50,000 according to the charity.

Having crossed the country and returned to Western Australia, the Camel Man has decided to finish here in Geraldton.

To mark the end of his journey, an event will be held on Saturday at the Geraldton Multipurpose Centre with dinner and a Q&A with Mr Elliott.
