The City of Greater Geraldton has received the tick of approval from the Auditor-General, named one of the top 20 WA local governments in 2021-22 annual audits.

It recognises the City’s performance across several different criteria, including the timely preparation of the audit and high-quality management of financials.

Mayor Shane Van Styn, who is also a CPA Accountant and registered auditor, said it was a big achievement for the City.

“This is . . .testament to our ongoing attention to detail and the tireless work we put into our financial recording and reporting,” he said.

“Being named one of the top 20 local governments in the State out of a total of 148 is absolutely massive and I would like to congratulate all City staff across various teams who are involved in our financial management.”

This was the first year of recognising the top 20 local governments which have demonstrated best practice in financial reporting. The assessment included good quality financial reports submitted for audit within the agreed timeframe and supported by reliable working papers, management resolution of accounting standards and presentation issues and availability of key staff during the audit process.

The Auditor-General gave special mention to regional shires who made the top 20 list, commending the efforts given constraints that can affect the regions.
