City of Greater Geraldton recognised for program designed to boost inclusivity and accessibility in graduates

The City of Greater Geraldton has claimed top honours at a State awards night, recognising its commitment to fostering inclusivity and accessibility in the workforce. At the Regional Capitals Alliance WA 2024 Most Accessible Communities in WA Awards on Friday, the city won the employment category for its Passport to Employment Program. The nine-week program, launched in 2019, is designed for Year 11 and 12 students who could benefit from additional support before graduating. Over the last five years, 85 students have graduated from P2E. City of Greater Geraldton mayor Jerry Clune said the program supported students with disabilities as they transitioned from school to the workforce. “This program is a collaborative effort involving not only various teams across the city but also local schools as well as organisations throughout our community,” he said. “I would like to acknowledge all that has gone into delivering this program and offer my heartfelt congratulations to the staff on a well-deserved accolade.” The Shire of Mount Magnet was highly commended in the awards. The MACWA Awards recognise local governments who creatively exceed access and inclusion requirements.
