The City of Greater Geraldton has returned to its search for contractors to carry out a bulk waste verge side collection program.

The City had initially planned for the program to be launched in 2022-23 but after delays it went to tender only in December.

That attempt was unsuccessful, with no contractors expressing interest in collecting either bulk hard waste or green waste, and in February 2023 the council voted put the program back to tender.

CEO Ross McKim said the proposal, which was put out on April 28, had been re-worked to provide more incentive for organisations to get involved.

“The City has faced several hurdles in securing a start date for the program, given challenges in relation to contractor availability,” Mr McKim said.

“We understand how much the community wants bulk verge side rubbish collection to return and we remain committed to reinstating it.”

The window for expressions of interest closes on May 30.

The program had been in place until 2016 when it was scrapped and its return was announced in the 2022-23 budget.
