City of Greater Geraldton’s Meru facility finalist in waste management awards

The City of Greater Geraldton has been named a finalist in the 2024 WasteSorted Awards, which praise exceptional leaders in driving change in WA’s waste strategy.

The awards celebrate those making landfill the last resort by avoiding, reusing, repairing and recycling waste and inspiring others to follow in their footsteps.

There are awards in 10 categories representing individuals, business and industry, Government, schools, community organisations and not-for-profits.

The City of Greater Geraldton and its Meru Waste Management Facility are finalists in the category for local government or regional council, alongside the City of Kwinana and the Eastern Metropolitan Regional Council.

“The finalists are contributing to a more sustainable, low waste WA and leading the way in ensuring landfill is the last resort,” WA Waste Authority chair Elizabeth Carr said.

“The entries we have seen across all the categories are inspiring and focus on practical ways of reducing and managing waste.”

Winners will be announced on September 5 as part of the annual Waste and Resource Recovery Conference.
