Community celebrates opening of refurbished Horrocks lookout after cyclone Seroja damage thanks to RAC funding

The refurbished lookout at Horrocks was officially opened on Sunday, 15 months after it was destroyed by cyclone Seroja. The revitalised landmark features reinstated paving and gravel, new benches, sculptures and a sundial. Locals and visitors came together for the lookout launch and lunch on Sunday to celebrate the project, which was delivered by RAC more than a year after the cyclone impacted the town along with other massive swathes of the Mid West. Supported by RAC’s Connecting Communities Fund, the Horrocks lookout received the most votes of any project affected by cyclone Seroja. Following a tour, the event also included a community handprint artwork activity, a sausage sizzle, face painting, pony rides and bouncy castles. RAC senior manager communications Rhys Heron congratulated the Horrocks community for reimagining the public space. “Cyclone Seroja had a devastating impact in Horrocks and RAC is privileged to help deliver a project that will bring the community together,” he said. “We are proud to play a part in bringing vibrancy back to our communities and creating inviting places for Western Australians to interact and connect with one another.” RAC has contributed more than $230,000 to WA projects through the annual Connecting Communities Fund.
