Community invited to comment on Chapman River Estuary draft action plan at Bluff Point Tennis Club next week

An action plan to enhance the natural wonders of the Chapman River Estuary will soon be revealed after a community workshop last month. The City is in collaboration with Northern Agricultural Catchments Council (NACC NRM) to draft an action management plan to provide to the community next week. The action plan, funded by the State Government Natural Resources Management Office, will ensure the cultural significance, recreational opportunities and the habitats of migratory shore birds, turtles and other animals will be maintained and protected. Last month local residents, environmentalists, wildlife enthusiasts and sporting group members joined a workshop to discuss their values and any concerns they had for the future of the Chapman River Estuary. The Chapman River Estuary Stakeholder Feedback Workshop will be held on Thursday, May 12 from 5.30pm to 7.30pm at the Spalding Tennis Club in Bluff Point. City of Greater Geraldton Deputy Mayor Jerry Clune said he invited members in the community to review what had been developed from the community input workshop last month. “NACC NRM and City staff met with members of the Cultural Committee of the Yamatji Southern Regional Corporation to gain a better understanding of the cultural significance the estuary has for many Aboriginal people,” he said. “It’s really important we get this right so I encourage anyone interested in the Estuary and its future attend the workshop and give us their feedback on various aspects of the draft action plan.” RSVPs are essential, contact NACC NRM’s Coastcare Support Officer Alanah Campbell on 0429 967 975 to secure a spot.
