Councillor Bob Hall renominates for Greater Geraldton council, highlighting his decades of experience

After serving the city for 22 years, Greater Geraldton Cr Bob Hall is renominating for another term to continue his civic duty on the council. Cr Hall, who worked in the police force for 37 years, wants to continue serving. He has made the community his focus through involvement with various associations including Geraldton Lions and multiple school boards. Cr Hall’s initial reason for running for the council was a nod to his father, a Rotarian of 67 years and Freemason of 75 years. He said his father’s ethos was “you need to be involved in the community”. “In addition I found local government was, and still is, the last community-based democratic decision-making process . . . that was not influenced by structure party politics,” he said. In response to a lack of diversity on the council, Cr Hall said the collective went through periods of having a diverse involvement of people, but this year’s election had seen the biggest number of candidates nominate during his involvement with the council. “We work as a regulated collective of community representation and make decisions based on research and how those decisions will affect our community and its ethnic communities and their cultures respectively,” he said. In terms of priority tasks, Cr Hall holds developing Geraldton Regional Hospital as the most important, followed by increasing affordable housing and finding a suitable tender to construct it, and lastly encouraging industry and port growth. Cr Hall maintains the City council and its administration have ”under the direction of the CEO done a very good job in ensuring Geraldton as one of the best and well-managed in the realm of regional governments in WA”. Sixteen people are vying for four council spots available. The election will be held on Saturday, October 21, and is being conducted via postal vote. Voting is not mandatory and Cr Hall encourages residents to participate in the process and have a say in who represents them.
