Demons steal minor premiership as water polo regular season comes to a close
After 15 rounds it came down to the final game as the Demons pulled off an incredible coup to take out the Geraldton water polo minor premiership.
The Demons beats B52s 11-4, with Lachy Toomath adding four goals to his individual tally for the season giving the Demons the minor premiership and a direct route to the grand final.
Jack Cocking and Zac Cross were outstanding for Demons, getting five goals between them, but it was a great overall team effort that saw them take the victory and the minor premiership.
B52s put up a good fight but were swamped from the first whistle by Demons’ relentless attack.
Nick Pead scored two goals early on and Jack Deschamp did well in the B52s goal and kept them in the game until he was overrun.
Demons will face the winner of the prelim final, where Rats take on B52s.
In the women’s A grade, Demons beat out a plucky Rats team 11-7.
Jazmin Cocking and Abbie McDonald were both on fire for the Demons side, collecting nine goals between them.
Taylor Beros did her best to keep Rats in the game, scoring several times late on.
B52s played Serpents in the other match-up as the B52s took the win 11-4.
Hailee Horsman scored an impressive six goals, including a hat-trick in the second quarter as they finished well in front of the Demons on the ladder.
In women’s B grade, Rats beat Serpents 10-3.
Milly Kalajzich scored four goals and Tessa O’Malley also put in a great performance with her hat-trick for Rats.
B52s won over Demons 8-1 in the other women’s B-grade game, with Julia Gourley, Evie Prout and Hailee Horsman all getting two goals.
In men’s B-grade, B52s won the derby against Relics in convincing fashion, winning 13-3.
In the C-grade, B52s White thrashed Rats 9-1.
B52s Blue scored 19 goals against Demons as Kim Schofield put 8 goals away for the B52s.
For the women B52s beat Demons Gold 6-1, Rats Black were victorious against Serpents 5-3 and rats Orange beat Demons Black in convincing style, 16-2.
Association spokesperson Julia Gourley is looking forward to finals.
“This season upon the return from Christmas break and after our juniors returned from AYWPC in Perth, the games each week just kept dialling up,” she said.
“This finals season will debut the first junior finals which will be played in a round-robin format, we look forward to semi and grand final days which always bring big crowds and surprise winners.”
