DFES called to Geraldton service station in Glenfield after hazardous substance leaked from truck’s container

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services was called to deal with a hazardous spill north of Geraldton on Tuesday night at the 440 Roadhouse in Glenfield. After a call came in just before 8pm, DFES crews were sent out to the scene on North West Coastal Highway. Firefighters found a leaking container on a truck’s trailer. There was no direct threat to the community, but the crews isolated the area while they dealt with the matter. The spill was cleaned up within a few hours. It was believed to be gardening product that had spilt out of the trailer. Earlier this month, the town of New Norcia was evacuated after a road train trailer containing ammonium nitrate caught fire, with fears if it exploded it would directly affect the nearby townsite.
