DIAB Engineering first in the region tasked with building multi-loader stackers for CBH operations

A Mid West fabricator tasked with providing CBH with four large machines is close to the finish line after eight challenging months working on the job, the first-of-its-kind for the region. DIAB Engineering has recently completed two of four multi-loader stackers which CBH uses to load grain from bins into trucks for transport to grain terminals. The 500 tonne per hour mobile drag chain conveyers are usually built interstate, but CBH chose to use a regional fabricator for the first time in the Mid West. Last Thursday, CBH Geraldton zone manager Justin Bayles, fabrication specialist Cody Thomas and maintenance superintendent Jamie McMahon travelled to Geraldton to assess the finished product. DIAB project manager Xavier Sequeira said it was the first time a regional fabricator was awarded a job this size. “In the past they’ve built them in Adelaide. CBH wanted to utilise a regional supplier so they approached us,” he said. “We’ve worked for CBH in the past but not on a scale like this, this is the first time we have fabricated these units. “It’s a good feeling coming to the end of this project. It’s been a bit of a challenge for us, we have hardcore boilermakers here so to do something that requires a bit more finesse was a bit of a challenge for the boys but they jumped on it and they did a great job.” Mr Thomas said this part of the build program was critical to the operations out loading program over the next six to eight months. “We’re always looking to expand our list of capable suppliers and being local makes it convenient for our operations teams in local areas as well,” he said. “They’re pretty much the most critical item to go with the front end loaders for our out loading program across the network along with the trucks.”
