Geraldton police are hunting a driver who led officers on a high speed chase before crashing into a garage and allegedly fleeing on foot early on Christmas day.

Police said the chase began about 1.10am when officers tried to stop a Holden Commodore sedan on Willcock Drive, Mahomets Flats.

The driver then allegedly took off at speed, leading officers on a short chase into Beachlands, where he allegedly lost control and crashed into the garage of a Crowther Street home.

He then allegedly fled on foot, escaping arrest.

Police said the impact dented the garage but it did not receive structural damage.

Police investigations are ongoing.

Anyone who saw a black Holden Commodore Sedan with a white front right side panel driving in the area before the incident is asked to call Geraldton Police Station on 9923 4555 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
