Three Springs police say a 43-year-old Geraldton man is lucky to be alive after his Toyota Celica smashed into a tree last night.

But his luck ended there, with police saying they found methamphetamine in his car after the crash, which happened about 9.40pm on the Mingenew Morawa Road, Merkanooka, about 30km west of Morawa.

The man was taken to Morawa District Hospital where he was treated for suspected broken bones.

There were no passengers in the vehicle.

Police said they were still investigating the crash and charges had yet to be laid.
