Early voting in The Voice to Parliament referendum now available
Early voting in The Voice to Parliament referendum is now available in the two weeks leading up to the October 14 polling date.
Early voting centres in WA, Tasmania, Victoria and Tasmania opened up on Monday, while the rest of Australia will open on Tuesday.
In Geraldton, the early voting centre is at Sanford Plaza at Shop 5, 48 Sanford Street. It is open from 8.30am to 5.30pm from now until Friday, October 6 and from Monday, October 9 to Thursday, October 12, 9am to 4pm on Saturday, October 6, 8.30am to 6pm on Friday, October 16 and 8am to 6pm on Saturday, October 14.
Australian Electoral Commissioner Tom Rogers is urging voters to plan their vote for the first nationwide referendum Australia has had since 1999.
“Federal referendums are in-person events just like elections — this is the first time the country is coming together in nearly a quarter of a century to have their say on potential Constitutional change,” he said.
“If you can vote on October 14, then that’s what you should do. However, if your circumstances might prevent you from doing that then you need to think about the early voting options available and vote according to your circumstances.
“Remember, it is compulsory to vote for all enrolled Australians.”
Applications for postal votes close on Wednesday, October 11 at 6pm local time.
The AEC is asking voters to be patient while waiting to cast their ballot — by clearly writing either Yes or No in the box — and be respectful to staff.
