A main road in Geraldton was closed early this morning because of a fallen power line.

A Western Power spokesman said the incident happened in Chapman Road.

He said a private power pole had fallen, bringing down an individual service line to a property.

Police closed the road between Mark and Bertie streets while a Western Power emergency response crew attended the scene.

The Western Power spokesman said the crew ensured safety measures in the network had operated to make the area safe from potential electric shock and removed the damaged cable.

They also disconnected the house connection so the home owner could contact an electrician to complete repairs to privately-owned assets that connect to the network.

The road has since been re-opened to traffic.
