Finals are here in Geraldton Hockey Association after intense last round of play

The final round of the regular Geraldton hockey season concluded with intense action, setting the stage for an exciting weekend of finals.

Beginning with the women’s A-reserves on Thursday night, followed by the junior grand finals on Friday evening, and all other senior finals on Saturday.

In the men’s A-grade, Rovers defeated Casuals 3-1, with goals from Jack Dawson, Kye McVee, and Dave Chapman, while Lachlan Camerer scored for Casuals.

Saints, who secured the minor premiership for the first time since 2007, confirmed their dominance with a 4-1 victory over Murchison. Matt O’Neil, Adam Burrows, Zac McGowan, and Simon found the back of the net for Saints, with Ryan Dix scoring for Murch.

Saints and Rovers will now face off in the semi-finals, while Casuals will take on Australs-Yacht Club.

In the women’s A-grade, minor premiers Cardinals continued their strong form with a commanding 5-0 win over Australs, led by Kiara Jones’ double and additional goals from Regan Fitzsimmons, Sian Crudeli, and Jess Guidice-Nairn.

Meanwhile, Saints and Yacht Club played out a 1-1 draw, with Lailah Belottie scoring for Saints and Lucy Chester for Yacht Club. Murchison overcame Swans 3-1. The finals will see Cardinals up against Australs and Saints facing Yacht Club.

The men’s A-reserves saw minor premiers Casuals wrap up the season with a 5-0 victory over Murch, thanks to Paul Lalor’s double and goals from Will Bateman, Enan Hann, and Jasper Marsh.

Saints defeated Yacht Club 3-1, while Rovers and Australs drew 1-1. The finals will pit Casuals against Australs and Saints against Rovers.

In the women’s A-reserves, minor premiers Saints finished their season with a 2-0 win over Murchison, with goals from Pamela Smead and Emma Smith.

Australs defeated Swans 3-0, while Vets overcame Yacht Club Blue 4-1. Yacht Club Gold secured a 3-1 victory over Cardinals.

Thursday night’s semi-finals will see Saints take on Yacht Club Gold and Australs clash with Yacht Club Blue.

With the junior grand finals set for Friday evening, and all senior finals following on Saturday, the Geraldton hockey community is gearing up for a weekend of thrilling matches to close out the 2024 season.
