One of the biggest events on the racing calender is set to bring a crowd of excited race fans to the first weekend race since April at Geraldton Turf Club on Sunday.

Ladies Day attracts owners and trainers from all over the State to compete with the best that Geraldton has to offer.

Geraldton Turf Club manager David Wrenstead said it was always a great Geraldton showcase.

“It’s one of our biggest days of the year in the racing calendar,” he said.

“There’s always anticipation and excitement that builds, being the first weekend race since April.”

Not only will it be a showcase of racing, but Ladies Day festivities off the track are sure to impress. Fashions on the field will showcase the best-dressed ladies and gents with prizes to be won.

“Ladies Day is free entry with plenty of activities and events happening with fashions on the field, prizes to best-dressed of course and plenty for the kids to get up to,” Mr Wrenstead said.

The staple race and third on the card, the Ladies Day Sprint, has 12 locals in the field and a prize pool of $35,000.

Challenging the local talent in race three will include some of WA’s leading trainers with Adam Durrant and Michael Grantham having two runners each in the 1200m. Durrant has Mia Gusto and La Dette and Grantham King Akeed and First Beach.

One touted to do well is Granthams’s First Beach, winning impressively on debut.

Eyes will also be on the local products. Trainer Julia Martin said it was a great opportunity to showcase the Perth talent Geraldton’s pedigree.

“Obviously there is a lot of talent that comes up from Perth so it will be good to show them what the Geraldton talent is made of,” she said.
