The Mid West is set to be well represented in Boxing WA’s fight night in Perth this weekend, with five competitors from Geraldton set to compete.

Peacocks Boxing Gym will have four boxers competing on Sunday, July 21, while Point Blank fitness will have another boxer take part.

Among the competitors is Kyson “Lil Babe” Crudeli, who recently represented WA at the Australian Schools Boxing Championships in Perth.

The 15-year-old is stepping up a weight division to compete against WA’s number one 50kg fighter Lewis Keating.

Coach Jake Peacock said Crudeli is keen to bounce back from his loss to two-time Australian champion Shem Travers.

“We’ll take the hard fights. This is great prep for the National Golden Gloves in Queensland in August,” he said.

The event will be the debuts for Leigh “Baby Bluff” Thanh Nong, 10, and Bianca Merry, 13.

Thanh Nong, who travels from Kalbarri twice a week to train, will come up against Wanneroo’s George Washer.

Meanwhile, Merry is a budding soccer player who has been training with Peacocks Boxing Gym, and will take on iBox’s Mariana Malho.

Peacock said the two of them began training this year.

“Ideally I’d like them both to have another six months of training under their belts, but Leigh is only 32kg and Bianca a teenage girl,” he said.

“Opportunities for fights don’t come up often for these guys, so you have to take it when you can.

“Both train extremely hard, and I expect both to go well.”

However, Peacock added the goal for the pair was to gain ring experience.

Timmy McAuliffe will also compete in his fourth fight, giving away weight to move up a division.

“Young Timmy” is the reigning State light welterweight novice champion, and will move to welterweight to take on Perth’s Jacob Pennebaker.

Meanwhile, Point Blank Fitness’ Jackson Clifford will look to use his 16-year experience when he takes on Nubian Boxing’s Joel David in a light middleweight bout.
