I recently stumbled on a hidden gem, my own little slice of heaven tucked away in Geraldton’s Penny Lane Arcade — Syrup Trap. This whimsical and colourful cafe (think pink) quickly captured my heart and taste buds, with its sweet aroma wafting through the air. Specialising in heavenly waffles and an array of delectable baked goods, Syrup Trap is a dessert lover’s paradise. From the moment I stepped foot into its pink-hued premises, I knew I was in for a treat. The menu, though simple, boasts a tantalising selection of waffles with various toppings, along with a touch of quirky charm in the form of deep-fried oddities like pickles and cookies. To complement these delights, they also offer a delightful range of freak shakes and hot beverages. Upon arrival, I was pleasantly surprised to find ample parking and an abundance of seating. As we settled in, we decided to indulge in a couple of aromatic coffees, the Sweet as Pie waffle and and a round of deep-fried Oreo cookies. With a total bill under $35, it was good value for the quality and generous portion sizes we received. The coffees, while not reaching the heights of some more established cafes, were still enjoyable, providing a pleasant and comforting brew. The Sweet as Pie waffle was wonderful. Served with a flourish, the plate presented a pair of golden waffles adorned with velvety apple sauce, tantalising cookie crumb sprinkles, and vanilla ice cream. The variety of textures — crunchy yet tender, sweet but not overpowering — made each bite a symphony of flavours. The true star of the show was the deep-fried Oreo cookies. Words fail to capture the sheer decadence and delight these morsels brought to my palate. Every bite was a balance of sweetness, softness, and pure bliss. One serving was simply not enough to satisfy our craving. Would I recommend Syrup Trap? Oh, without a doubt!
