Tucked away in the bustling heart of our city, Chey’s Cafe has been quietly gaining a reputation as a must-visit spot for food enthusiasts. With its unassuming exterior and cozy atmosphere, this cafe at Northgate Shopping Centre, formerly known as Senses Cafe, has been on my radar for some time, but I finally made the time to stop by for a leisurely breakfast/lunch experience. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint. Unlike many other popular eateries in the area, Chey’s Cafe has ample parking available, so finding a spot was a breeze. As I walked in, I was immediately charmed by the simple yet inviting decor. The cafe had plenty of indoor and outdoor seating options, including a unique breakfast bar corner that caught my eye. After placing our order at the counter, my dining companion and I were served promptly, with our drinks arriving within 10 minutes. The menu boasted a variety of options, from classic breakfast staples to unique and adventurous offerings. We decided to go for the pancakes, chilli eggs, and a caramel milkshake and latte. The pancakes were a highlight of our meal. Despite one side being slightly darker than the other, they were incredibly fluffy and bursting with flavour. The generous serving of ice-cream on top was a delightful touch, adding a creamy sweetness to each bite. It was a breakfast indulgence that left us wanting more. The chilli eggs were a departure from our usual breakfast choices, and we were pleasantly surprised. The perfectly cooked eggs, with their runny yolks oozing out, were a delicious treat. The addition of chorizo added a smoky and savoury note, although we wished there was more of it. The accompanying bread, mushrooms, and hash brown rounded out the dish nicely. However, what truly made it stand out was the chilli oil/sauce that packed a punch of heat and flavour. While the prices at Chey’s Cafe were on the higher side at $50 for our meal, the portion sizes justified the cost. The quality of the ingredients and the attention to detail in the presentation and flavours were evident in each dish. It was clear that Chey’s Cafe takes pride in their offerings and aims to provide a memorable dining experience for their patrons. Beyond the food, the service was attentive and friendly. The staff made us feel welcome and attended to our needs promptly. Chey’s Cafe is a (not-so) hidden gem that deserves to be explored.
