Full field of races and Fashions to feature as Ladies Day runs on Sunday at Geraldton

The fun and fashion of Ladies Day return to the Geraldton Turf Club on Sunday, with a full race card and Fashions on the Field.

Trainer Ashley Maley has entered seven-year-old mare Blue Horse for the 1200m, $81,690 Brown Brothers Ladies Day Sprint after a win last time out but said with stiff competition from an international visitor, it might be a tough call.

“It’s probably not its ideal distance, 1200 will test it because it probably needs more ground,” Maley said.

“It’ll probably need that extra couple hundred metres.

“Adam Durrant’s horse is probably the one to beat in it.”

Maley, who is based in Gingin but normally races at Geraldton, entered Blue Horse after it had a win over 1400m in the class two handicap last Wednesday at Geraldton.

Karnup-based Durrant will be running four-year-old Kiwi mare Testing Love, which won the $20,000 Capel Vale Winery Maiden at Bunbury in December.

Jockey Clint Johnston-Porter will be aboard.

Testing Love’s fellow Kiwi, Tampering Falls, trained by Bunbury-based Nikki Davies, will also be running.

The six-year-old gelding won the $19,800, 1100m Mitchell & Brown Retravision Handicap in March at Geraldton. Experienced jockey Kyra Yuill will be in the saddle.

Local fashion afficionado and track rider Christy Poulsen, who judges fashion heats as well as competing, said she was looking forward to the return of the runway.

There was nearly a repeat on the cards in the feature race.

Angry Annie, last year’s Ladies Day Sprint winner, was nominated but connections decided not to accept for this year’s feature.

Trainer Tiarnna Robertson said it was “not the right race” for the five-year-old mare.
