Geraldton artist Sammy Jay to demonstrate techniques to creating colourful patterns in Sunflower art workshops

A Geraldton artist will share the techniques used to create bold and fierce works at a series of art workshops, which follow from her recent exhibition launch. The Shape of Colour opening night was held on July 26 at the Sunflower Studio on Marine Terrace. Artist Sam Wilkinson, known as Sammy Jay, creates what she describes as “aggressively happy” art, using whimsical flowers and joyful abstracts to spread positive vibes. Wilkinson will host three workshops to coincide with the exhibition, providing creatives an opportunity to explore their talent and learn her specialty. Participants will be taken on a journey drawing flowy patterns, creating cohesive colour schemes and using sharp linework to create something similar to what hangs on the wall. Wilkinson encouraged the creative community to join her at the studio for an afternoon of creativity and relaxation. “No experience necessary, just bring yourself and an open mind. Draw your own whimsical patterns, create a cohesive colour scheme, some basic brush techniques and how to create crisp lines,” Wilkinson said. Classic Waves will be held on Saturday, August 31 (12pm-2pm), Flowing Dreams on Tuesday, September 5 (6pm-8pm) and Flower Power on Saturday, September 7 (12pm-2pm). Tickets to participate in the workshops are $70 and can be bought at Eventbrite. The exhibition can be viewed until Friday, September 6.
