Geraldton boxers competing at Boxing WA’s fight night at the Serbian Club in Perth have had mixed results, but a young up-and-comer had a big win on debut.

Four boxers from Geraldton’s Peacocks Boxing Gym and one from Point Blank Fitness competed late last month, but only one was able to salute.

Ten-year-old Leigh “Baby Bluff” Thanh Nong impressed in his debut bout, competing against Wanneroo’s George Washer.

Nong used his fitness to his advantage, after both competitors landed blows in the first round.

He took control in the second, using his left jab to assert his authority on the contest.

Washer was knocked down as a result, but the referee called it a slip, taking it to a third round.

With the reach advantage, Nong was able to pin his opponent to the ropes, and land multiple strikes, on his way to the 4-1 victory by judges’ decision.

In the other bouts, “Young” Timmy McAuliffe had a heartbreaking 3-2 loss after moving up a weight division, while Kyson Crudeli couldn’t get the win over Lewie Keating after also moving up a weight division to face his opponent.

Bianca Merry wasn’t able to defeat iBox’s Mariana Mahlo, with the latter winning after the referee stopped the bout.

Meanwhile, Point Blank Fitness’ Jack Clifford went down 4-1 to Perth’s Joel David.
