Some Geraldton students have taken it upon themselves to bridge the divide between generations, taking to Nazareth House to help spread joy to its residents.

Pre-primary children from Geraldton Christian College took to the aged care facility on Thursday, where they sang to about 30 residents.

Afterwards, the kids gave gifts to the residents in attendance, which included homemade cards, flowers, and plants.

Teacher Brenda Pattenden said it was all about putting into practice their learnings at school.

“We have been learning about our community, and we thought even though we are little, we can make an impact on our own community,” she said.

“We decided to bless often the forgotten generation that are our heroes, our own grandparents.

“These children were so motivated to make beautiful cards for them and to show love.”

According to the school, it was the first time students had gone to the aged care home to bring joy to some of the residents.

Betty Thomas, a resident at Nazareth House, said it warmed her heart to have the children visit.

“They were gorgeous. I love to hear the kiddies, yeah, yeah. This doesn’t happen too often,” she said.

“It’s very important. We really love things like that, it’s absolutely terrific.”

Ms Pattenden hoped it would be the start of a yearly tradition for the school.
